Goyang City Sends License Plate Seizure Notices to 4,523 Delinquent Taxpayers

Advance Notice Issued to Encourage Voluntary Payment of 1.4 Billion Won in Overdue Taxes
Goyang City to Intensify License Plate Seizures Starting in September

Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced on August 13 that it has sent out advance notices regarding license plate seizures to encourage voluntary payment of overdue automobile taxes by delinquent taxpayers and to minimize complaints related to vehicle seizures.

The notices were sent to a total of 4,523 individuals, with the total amount of overdue taxes reaching 1.4 billion won.

The city plans to intensively seize license plates from September for vehicles whose overdue taxes remain unpaid even after the notices have been sent. In particular, vehicles with large amounts of overdue taxes or those registered under illegal names will be subject to compulsory towing and public auction.

However, for small business owners or vehicles used for livelihood purposes, the city will apply tailored collection methods such as installment payments to ease their financial burden.

The "Delinquent Vehicle Seizure Task Force," established in March this year, seized a total of 1,266 vehicles by the end of July and collected approximately 700 million won in overdue taxes by auctioning off 47 of them. The city plans to continue daily on-site enforcement going forward.

A city official stated, "We urge everyone to pay their overdue taxes in advance to avoid inconvenience to daily life and economic activities caused by license plate seizures," adding, "We will continue our enforcement efforts to secure stable financial resources and foster a mature tax culture where diligent taxpayers are respected."
