Sunchon City Steps Up Promotion
to Boost the Brand Value of Maesil
The city of Sunchon, South Jeolla Province (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu), announced on August 13 that McDonald's has launched a new beverage, the 'Sunchon Maesil McFizz', which features maesil, a local specialty plum.
This new menu item is characterized by its refreshing and tangy flavor, achieved by using 100% domestically grown Sunchon maesil. It will be available as a limited-time offering at McDonald's locations until September 17, with the possibility of an extension under consideration.
On August 10, McDonald's Korea heightened anticipation for the new product by posting the phrase "That thing everyone has on their veranda... Coming August 11" along with the hashtag '#SunchonMaesil' on its official X (formerly Twitter) account.
A city official stated, "With Sunchon maesil being used in a limited-edition McDonald's beverage, we expect to widely promote the excellent quality and unique taste of Sunchon maesil to consumers nationwide, which will also help increase the income of local farmers."
Meanwhile, the city plans to further expand public-private cooperation to enhance the added value of local agricultural products and strengthen promotional efforts to boost the brand value of Sunchon maesil.
