First Open Platform Unveiled
Anyone with a Kakao Account Can Register and Test MCPs
On August 13, Kakao announced that it has beta opened the 'PlayMCP' platform to discover various MCPs (Model Context Protocol) to be used in agent-type artificial intelligence (AI) services and to expand the ecosystem. Kakao is the first in Korea to introduce an open platform based on MCP.
MCP refers to a communication protocol that standardizes how AI models interact with external data or tools. It enables AI models to easily exchange data with external systems through MCP. Users can handle tasks that meet their needs and purposes within a single service, without having to switch between multiple services.

Kakao emphasized that the launch of the PlayMCP platform marks the first step in building the agentic AI ecosystem that the company aims for.
PlayMCP is an open platform, and any developer can participate using their Kakao account. Developers can register their own MCP servers and test how they operate in real conversations. They are also free to use MCPs and tools developed by others.
Currently, Kakao is supporting experimentation by making various MCP servers and connection tools available for testing, including KakaoTalk's chat with myself, Talk Calendar, Kakao Map, Gift, and Melon.
Yoo Yongha, Head of Performance at Kakao AI Agent Platform, stated, "The era in which AI deeply understands users' intentions and autonomously handles necessary tasks is arriving rapidly," adding, "PlayMCP will become a playground where developers both inside and outside Kakao can experience the integrated planning, experimentation, and execution of agentic AI."
