Chungnam Province Holds Memorial Exhibition for Japanese Military Comfort Women Victims Memorial Day

In commemoration of the 8th Japanese Military Comfort Women Victims Memorial Day on August 14, Chungnam Province has organized a memorial exhibition to remember the pain of the victims and reflect on the value of human rights.

On August 13, the province announced that it would hold the "Japanese Military Comfort Women Victims Memorial Day Exhibition" at the Special Exhibition Hall on the second floor of the Chungnam Provincial Library until August 17.

This year's exhibition, marking the 80th anniversary of Liberation, is themed around restoring the dignity of the victims and establishing a correct understanding of history.

The exhibition features photographs capturing the lives and suffering of the victims, banners that trace their footsteps, and an interactive photo zone where visitors can participate directly.

In particular, a special commemorative badge titled "The Cry of That Day, the Memory of Today" has been produced to mark the 80th anniversary of Liberation and will be given to visitors. The badge symbolizes the intention to carry on the voices of courage left by the victims.

The exhibition is open to everyone free of charge at the Chungnam Provincial Library, and is expected to serve not merely as a recollection of the past but as a venue delivering a human rights message that remains relevant today.

The province also plans to continue discovering various cultural and educational programs to further spread the significance of Memorial Day.

Kim Jongsoo, Director of Population Strategy for Chungnam Province, stated, "The sacrifice and outcry of the victims were acts of courage that moved history, and carrying on their legacy is the first step toward building a just future. I hope this exhibition becomes a place for historical education, where we remember the past together and share its lessons for today."

Meanwhile, on August 14, Memorial Day itself, the province will hold a memorial ceremony at the National Manghyang Cemetery to honor the spirits of the victims and reflect on history.
