Jiyoung Ko, Hoping to End Winless Drought with a Repeat of 2021

Jiyoung Ko to Compete in LPGA Tour Standard Portland Classic
2021 Champion Returns with Fond Memories
Winless in 14 Events This Year, Four Top-10 Finishes

Jiyoung Ko is hoping for a repeat of her 2021 success.

From August 14 (local time), the LPGA Tour's Standard Portland Classic (total prize money: $2 million) will take place over four days at Columbia Edgewater Country Club (par 72, 6,497 yards) in Portland, Oregon, USA. After spending the past month in Europe for events such as the Amundi Evian Championship (France), the ISPS Handa Scottish Open, and the AIG Women's Open (both in the United Kingdom), the LPGA Tour returns to the United States for the first time in about five weeks since the Dow Championship, which concluded at the end of June.

There are high expectations for Ko in this tournament. She was the champion here in 2021. However, at that time, the event was held at The Oregon Golf Club in West Linn, Oregon. Since 2022, the tournament has moved to Columbia Edgewater Country Club.

Ko is aiming for her first win at this venue, which holds good memories for her. Her most recent victory came at the Founders Cup in May 2023, marking her 15th career win. She has been experiencing a winless drought for two years and three months. Once ranked world number one, she has now dropped to 16th. This year, Ko has played in 14 tournaments and finished in the top 10 four times. Her best result was a runner-up finish at the Founders Cup in February. With only 12 tournaments remaining on the LPGA Tour schedule, Ko is in desperate need of a turnaround.
