Repaying Help from 13 Years Ago: Gijang County Village Chiefs Volunteer for Flood Recovery in Sancheong County

Volunteer Group of 40 Assists Damaged Households with Cleanup and Debris Removal
"We Received Help in 2014, Now It's Our Turn to Give Back"

Gijang County (County Governor Jung Jongbok) announced on August 12 that the Village Chiefs Association of Gijang County (Chairman Choi Jinho) recently visited Sancheong County in Gyeongnam, which was severely affected by heavy rains, to carry out volunteer work for flood recovery.

Approximately 40 members of the volunteer group affiliated with the Village Chiefs Association of Gijang County participated in this effort. They focused on assisting four households in Seokdae Village, Danseong-myeon, Sancheong County, which suffered significant damage from landslides and flooding, by helping to organize household items, remove debris, and clean up areas around the stream.

Before entering the recovery site, the volunteer group listened to a briefing on the damage from the chief of Seokdae Village and then divided into four teams to carry out their tasks. Despite the hard work under the scorching sun, the faces of the residents were filled with gratitude.

Chairman Choi Jinho said, "When Gijang County suffered from heavy rain damage in August 2014, we received help from all over the country. I am grateful that we can now repay even a small part of that support."

Jeong Donggeun, chief of Seokdae Village, said, "We have received recovery support from many places, but this is the first time we've seen a group work so passionately as if it were their own problem, like the Village Chiefs Association of Gijang County. I am truly grateful."
