Korea Railroad Corporation (hereafter Korail) will launch a large-scale recruitment drive in the second half of this year.
Korail announced on August 12 that it will accept applications for new hires in the second half of the year through its website from August 22 to 26 (for specialized and experienced positions, until August 27).
The company plans to hire a total of 1,200 people, including 1,181 new employees and 19 specialized or experienced professionals. This is the largest number among public institutions conducting recruitment in the second half of the year. Previously, in the first half of the year, Korail also hired the largest number of new employees among public institutions, with 2,243 new staff members.
For this second-half recruitment, 563 positions will be filled through open competition and 618 through limited competition. The limited competition positions include 214 for those with specific certifications, 335 for high school graduates, 50 for veterans, and 19 with regional residency restrictions.
The recruitment of outstanding regional talent will be conducted across six regions nationwide: the Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon, Chungcheong, Honam, Daegu-Gyeongbuk, and Busan-Gyeongnam.
The fields of recruitment are divided into seven categories: administration and sales (152 positions), train crew (115), train operation (160), rolling stock (246), civil engineering (101), architecture (50), and electrical and telecommunications (357).
Among these, the train crew position has been newly established starting with this recruitment to enhance expertise in related tasks and improve service quality.
Starting with this recruitment, Korail will ease the physical fitness requirements for the rolling stock, architecture, and electrical and telecommunications fields, and will increase the proportion of "high school graduate only" regional talent hires to expand opportunities for local talent. The number of regions with "residency restrictions" has also been expanded from three (Taebaek, Jeongseon, and Yeongwol) to nine (Taebaek, Jeongseon, Yeongwol, Pyeongchang, Jecheon, Danyang, Yeongju, Bonghwa, and Uljin).
After applications are received, the recruitment process will proceed in the following order: document screening, written test, practical test, and interview. Successful candidates will undergo an internship of at least two weeks, after which they will be appointed as regular employees based on a separate evaluation.
Specialized and experienced professionals will be selected mainly from those with expertise and experience in smart cities, spatial design, complex development IR, and big data related to artificial intelligence (AI).
Further details regarding the recruitment can be found in the recruitment notice posted on the Korail website.
Han Moonhee, President of Korail, stated, "Korail has significantly increased its recruitment scale in both the first and second halves of this year to help address youth unemployment. We hope that many talented and innovative individuals will apply for this recruitment."
