On the 12th, President Lee Jae-myung expressed his hope to North Korea, stating, "I wish we could mutually dismantle the unnecessary and costly loudspeakers."
President Lee made these remarks during a Cabinet meeting held at the Presidential Office in Yongsan on this day, adding, "It is reported that the North is also dismantling some of its loudspeakers."
He emphasized, "When we were the first to stop the propaganda broadcasts last June, they also stopped theirs," and continued, "I hope that such reciprocal actions will gradually open up dialogue and communication between the two Koreas."
President Lee further stated, "I hope inter-Korean relations on the Korean Peninsula can shift from being mutually damaging to being mutually beneficial," and pointed out, "It is truly difficult for both sides to pay such enormous costs due to the military confrontation caused by division."
He went on to explain, "I wonder if there is really any need for us to continue inflicting pain and harm on each other like this."
President Lee also stressed, "As much as possible, I hope we can restart dialogue and communication, and through a peaceful and stable Korean Peninsula that supports mutually beneficial relations, improve each side's economic environment."
Meanwhile, according to military authorities, since the 9th, the North Korean military has been confirmed to be dismantling its loudspeakers directed toward the South. The South Korean government began dismantling its loudspeakers aimed at the North on the 4th and completed the work in the afternoon of the 5th.
