Focus on Infectious Disease Control, Emergency Medical Care, and Health Promotion
Pocheon City in Gyeonggi Province, led by Mayor Baek Younghyun, is undertaking a comprehensive overhaul of its public health center functions and will actively implement an integrated health policy encompassing infectious diseases, emergency medical care, and health promotion to strengthen citizens' health and safety.
Eunsook Park, Director of Pocheon City Health Center, announced on the 12th at the regular city briefing that a comprehensive health policy encompassing infectious diseases, emergency medical care, and health promotion will be actively implemented. Provided by Pocheon City
On August 12, during a regular city briefing, Pocheon City announced these plans and stated that it had established a new Health Promotion Division within the health center in May, thereby enhancing the professionalism and efficiency of public health administration.
The city has reorganized its health sub-centers to better reflect local conditions and resident needs, converting the Soheul Health Sub-center into the Soheul Healthy Living Support Center and closing the Gunnae and Seondan health sub-centers. Through these changes, Pocheon aims to improve administrative and financial efficiency and provide residents with more accessible, customized health management services.
For residents in medically underserved areas, the city is expanding practical health services such as offering free health checkups in cooperation with Asan Medical Center in Seoul, providing emergency safety kits to senior centers, and implementing AI and IoT-based senior health management programs.
In the field of infectious disease control, Pocheon will maintain a 24-hour monitoring system and an ongoing epidemiological investigation team, while also intensifying focused quarantine efforts and expanding vaccination in vulnerable areas. In October, a simulated bioterrorism response drill will be held to strengthen preparedness for unexpected situations.
Additionally, two rapid disaster emergency medical response teams (comprising 12 members) will be operated at all times, and the number of emergency and pediatric inpatient beds at Pocheon Woori Hospital will be increased. The city will also provide CPR and AED training for citizens and school staff to bolster crisis response capabilities.
The city plans to strengthen tailored health management services that cover the entire life cycle, from infants to the elderly. This includes support for pregnant women in areas lacking maternity services, operation of a public postpartum care center, expanded childbirth support, and the further development of dementia-safe communities, all aimed at providing preventive health management and care services.
Eunsook Park, Director of Pocheon City Health Center, stated, "This reorganization of the health center's functions is intended to ensure that citizens can genuinely experience health and safety in their daily lives. We will proactively address a wide range of health issues, including infectious diseases, emergencies, and chronic illnesses, to build a healthier and safer Pocheon."
