Goyang City Accelerates Preparations for "Goyang Youth Day" Led by Young People

Nine-member Youth Event Planning Group Formed
Accelerating Preparations Ahead of September 20 Event

Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced on August 12 that it has formed a Youth Event Planning Group comprised of young people to ensure the successful organization of the "2025 Goyang Youth Day" event, which will be held at the "Naeil Dream Makerspace," a youth integrated cultural space, on September 20. The group has officially begun its activities.

"Youth Day" is a legally designated commemorative day held every year on the third Saturday of September to guarantee the rights of young people and promote their participation in society. The city hosts an event each year to celebrate this day, bringing together youth and the local community. This year’s event, in particular, is being prepared as a "youth-led festival" under the slogan "A Restful Today, A Dream-filled Tomorrow," with young people taking the lead from planning through to execution.

The Youth Event Planning Group consists of nine Goyang City youth who are already active in youth governance and have voluntarily joined this effort. From June to September, for about four months, the group has been gathering at Naeil Dream Makerspace after work in the evenings to discuss the event’s theme, program structure, and promotional strategies, accelerating preparations for the event.

On the day of the event, the group will also participate in on-site operations, such as running youth governance promotional booths, thereby enhancing the practical execution of the event.

The city plans to actively incorporate a variety of ideas from young people to further develop the event into a meaningful occasion that resonates with and is enjoyed by the youth.

This planning group’s activities are expected to expand youth participation in municipal administration and serve as a foundation for strengthening networks between the Youth Policy Coordination Committee and other consultative bodies.

A Goyang Special City official stated, "It is highly meaningful that young people, as the main protagonists of Youth Day, are taking the initiative to plan and create this important day for the community themselves. We hope this event will serve as an opportunity for youth voices to be reflected in municipal policies and become a starting point for mutual growth between young people and the city."

Meanwhile, Goyang City’s Naeil Dream Makerspace continues to operate programs that reflect the diverse needs of young people. It serves as a springboard to help youth prepare for their futures by offering initiatives to strengthen job-seeking and entrepreneurship capabilities, as well as emotional support, vitality support programs, and support for resident young entrepreneurs. The space has firmly established itself as a practical hub for youth support.
