Expanding Exchanges and Building a Mutually Beneficial Model Between Two Cities
Gongju City in South Chungcheong Province is joining hands with Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province to launch a mutually beneficial cooperation system encompassing the fields of culture, economy, and agriculture.
On August 12, the city held a sister city agreement signing ceremony at Pyeongtaek City Hall, formalizing an agreement to expand exchanges and pursue joint development between the two cities.
The event was attended by Choi Woncheol, Mayor of Gongju, Lim Dalhee, Chairperson of the Gongju City Council, Jung Jangsun, Mayor of Pyeongtaek, Kang Jeonggu, Chairperson of the Pyeongtaek City Council, and other officials from both cities, who discussed directions for cooperation.
The sister city agreement includes: ▲ establishing a foundation for the development of culture and the arts ▲ revitalizing exchanges between rural experience and recreation villages ▲ identifying collaborative projects that leverage the unique characteristics of urban and rural areas ▲ supporting the distribution channels for agricultural and specialty products.
The goal is to enhance the quality of life for citizens and revitalize the local economy through practical cooperative projects that reflect the unique characteristics of each region.
The sister city partnership was initiated in August 2023 at the proposal of Pyeongtaek City and was officially signed on this day following working-level consultations and the approval of the Gongju City Council.
With this agreement, the two cities plan to strengthen exchanges across culture and the economy, and to establish a model for mutually beneficial urban-rural cooperation.
Mayor Choi Woncheol stated, "This sister city partnership will make a significant contribution to the promotion of culture and the arts and to invigorating the economy in both cities," adding, "Through practical exchanges and cooperation, we will work to ensure the happiness of our citizens and the sustainable development of our region."
