Dongnae District Council (Chairman Tak Youngil) announced on August 12 that it held the "14th Youth Model Council" in the council's main chamber on August 9.

More than 40 participants, including youth members from the Dongnae Youth Center's self-governing organization, took part in the event.

This program was designed to inform young people about the roles and functions of local councils and to provide them with hands-on experience in legislative activities. After listening to explanations about the council's functions and structure, the participating students took the oath of office in the main chamber.

They then delivered five-minute free speeches on the theme of "Youth Pedestrian Rights and Cultural·Art Activities," calling for greater attention to youth issues in the local community. The students also moved to the committee room, where they experienced the process of reviewing and passing two ordinances: ▲ the "Ordinance on Securing Youth Pedestrian Safety and Improving Order for the Use of Personal Mobility Devices (PM)" and ▲ the "Ordinance on Promoting Youth Participation in Cultural·Art Activities."

Kim Junghoo, a first-year student at Dongnae High School who served as chairperson, said, "At first, I felt shy sitting in the chairperson's seat, but it was a meaningful experience to directly participate in democratic decision-making. I will continue to pay close attention to the activities of Dongnae District Council in the future."

Chairman Tak Youngil stated, "I hope this model council session will help young people understand the functions of local councils and provide an opportunity to view local issues from a new perspective. We will continue to communicate with young people who will become the democratic citizens of the future."

Dongnae District Council plans to further expand various resident communication programs, including the youth model council, in the future.
