Professor Jinhee Choi of University of Seoul Succeeds in Transferring Developed Technology to Chembio for 120 Million KRW

AI-Based Toxicity Prediction Technology
Transferred to Chembio for Commercialization

On August 12, the University of Seoul announced that a research team led by Professor Jinhee Choi from the Department of Environmental Engineering had transferred its "artificial intelligence (AI)-based toxicity prediction technology" to Chembio for 120 million KRW.

The transferred technology includes a total of three patents and related know-how, such as a "device for constructing an adverse outcome pathway (AOP) network to assess the contribution of chemicals to disease causation and a method for prioritizing chemicals with potential to cause diseases."

Notably, this technology transfer integrates a technology that was selected as one of the Ministry of Environment's "Top 20 Environmental Technology Achievements" in 2022, as well as core technologies derived from the ongoing Ministry of Environment's core technology development project for the prevention and management of environmental diseases.

This technology quantitatively analyzes the toxicity of chemicals based on adverse outcome pathways and enables the AI-based prioritization of chemicals that pose significant potential risks to human health. It can dramatically reduce both the time and cost involved in material development and product safety verification processes.

Moonkyu Lee, head of the Industry-Academia Cooperation Foundation, stated, "This case is a representative example of how excellent research achievements by faculty members can lead to tangible technology transfers, startups, and commercialization."

Meanwhile, after founding Chembio through a faculty startup last year, Professor Choi has continued ongoing research and validation efforts. In June, Chembio was officially incorporated as a subsidiary of the University of Seoul Technology Holdings Company.
