Now in its second year, this festival is a classical music event independently organized by Seongnam City to discover young musical talents and promote cultural and artistic exchange.
Through group auditions held in June, 18 school and private youth orchestras from within the city were selected to participate, along with five individual performers who were chosen through solo auditions. All of them will take the stage at the festival.
On the opening night, August 22, the BIS Orchestra, Wirye Dreaming Orchestra, Kaywon High School of Arts Orchestra, and cellist Park Jihee (a senior at Seoul National University College of Music) will perform.
The program includes Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 “Fate,” Mozart’s “Cos? fan tutte Overture,” Haydn’s “Te Deum,” and Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1, among others.
The subsequent festival schedule is as follows: August 23 and 24 at Seongnam Atrium Grand Theater; August 30 and 31 at Seongnam Arts Center Concert Hall; September 6 and 7 at Jeongja-dong Multipurpose Plaza; September 14 at Wirye Waterside Park Outdoor Stage; September 20 at Jungwon Youth Center Outdoor Plaza; and September 27 at Seongnam Arts Center Concert Hall.
Depending on the date, performers will include the Seongnam Youth Chamber Orchestra, Wirye Youth Orchestra, Buljeong Elementary Orchestra, SA Youth Orchestra, Pangyo Youth Orchestra, as well as violist Kim Yuna (a first-year student at Seoul Arts High School), violinist Lee Hyunju (a fifth grader at Naejeong Elementary School), flutist Bae Suan (a junior at Gachon University), and trombonist Lee Minho.
All performances are free of charge. To attend, simply scan the QR code on the Seongnam City website (under Events, Courses, and Contests), make a reservation for the desired session, and visit the venue on the day of the performance.
A Seongnam City official stated, “This will be a musical celebration featuring the young talents who will lead the future of Korea’s arts scene,” adding, “We expect it will provide citizens with opportunities to enjoy culture in their daily lives, and serve as a stepping stone for young musicians to advance to professional stages.”
