Shot in a Park Last June
The conservative opposition presidential candidate in Colombia, who had been receiving treatment after being shot during a campaign event, was reported to have died on the 11th (local time).
According to multiple foreign media outlets, the family of Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay announced that Senator Uribe had passed away.
Senator Uribe's wife wrote on Instagram, "I asked God to teach me how to live without you," adding, "My love, I will take care of the children, so please rest in peace."
Senator Uribe was shot while delivering a speech in a park in downtown Bogota on June 7 and subsequently underwent several surgeries.
The Colombian police reported that the shooter was a teenager who used a firearm smuggled from the United States. Senator Uribe was a member of the center-right Democratic Center party, led by former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, and had declared his candidacy for next year's Colombian presidential election.
