On August 11, Kang Hoonshik, Chief of Staff to the President, instructed relevant government ministries to work together to develop measures so that South Korea can become the center of global cultural exchange.
Presiding over a meeting of senior aides at the presidential office in Yongsan on the same day, Kang stated, "This current wave of Hallyu 4.0 is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that may never come again."
Kang emphasized, "Hallyu has evolved from the drama-centered 1.0, to the expansion of K-pop and dramas in 2.0, to worldwide growth through global platforms in 3.0. Now, we are entering the 4.0 era, where global fandom and economic activity are merging, the entire industry is converging, and real-time cultural exchange is taking place."
He added, "The popularity of Rose's 'Apartment,' 'Squid Game,' and 'K-pop Demon Hunters' must not remain a one-time phenomenon, but should generate continuous and tangible ripple effects throughout the domestic cultural industry."
