Recently, media outlets in the Chungcheong region have been competing to report that a "golden era for Chungcheong has arrived." These articles highlight that many members of the newly inaugurated Democratic Party leadership under Jeong Chungrae hail from Chungcheong. Upon closer examination, there is merit to this observation. Some perspectives go beyond the simple arithmetic of representation and connect it to Jeong Chungrae's future political moves. There is speculation that Jeong's recent efforts in the Honam region may be part of a long-term strategy to build a power base combining Chungcheong and Honam.
