Jeollanamdo Province has announced the implementation of the 'Facility Horticulture Production Cost Reduction Support Project' to minimize damage to crops sensitive to high temperatures, such as greenhouse vegetables, fruit trees, and flowers, and to stabilize the management of local farmers.
This project targets greenhouse facilities that are vulnerable to heatwaves, providing support for energy-saving cooling systems and temperature-reducing materials. With a total budget of 370 million KRW, the initiative will be carried out in 21 cities and counties across the province, including Yeosu.
The support is available to farms operating greenhouse facilities, such as plastic greenhouses and glasshouses. Assistance will be provided for the installation of energy-saving cooling systems, as well as for shading and heat-blocking materials and shading screens.
Shading screens and heat-blocking agents are effective in blocking sunlight from entering the greenhouse and in lowering the internal temperature. These measures make a significant contribution to preventing crop growth disorders, quality deterioration, and yield reduction caused by heatwaves.
Yoo Deokgyu, Director of the Food and Horticulture Division of Jeollanamdo Province, stated, "Heatwaves caused by climate change are no longer temporary phenomena but have become structural risk factors that directly affect agricultural production. Through the support of these mitigation facilities, we will continue to expand assistance to prevent damage to farmers in advance and to establish a stable foundation for crop production during the summer."
