Governor Myeon Hyungwan:
"Forming a Preparatory Committee
to Ensure a Warm Welcome for All Guests"
Haenam County in South Jeolla Province is set to host a regular tournament on the U.S. Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour this October, marking the beginning of efforts to boost local sports tourism.
At a regular staff meeting on August 11, Governor Myeon Hyungwan stated, "On August 8, we signed a memorandum of understanding confirming that the 2025 LPGA BMW Ladies Championship will be held here. This tournament is the only regular LPGA Tour event in Korea, and for the first time, it will take place not in the capital region or Busan, but in Jeonnam?specifically, right here in Haenam."
The tournament will be held from October 16 to 19 at Pine Beach Golf Links in Hwawon-myeon. As the only regular LPGA Tour tournament in Korea, its significance is heightened by the fact that it will be held in Jeonnam for the first time, outside the capital region and Busan.
The county expects between 50,000 and 60,000 domestic and international golf fans and tourists to visit during the tournament. In preparation, Haenam County has formed a county-wide tournament preparation committee to oversee all practical aspects such as transportation, safety, accommodation, tourism, and volunteer work, ensuring that world-class athletes can perform at their best. Additionally, the county plans to meticulously prepare to maximize the economic revitalization of the region through sports tourism.
Governor Myeon emphasized, "This tournament is not just a sporting event?it is a crucial turning point for promoting Haenam to the world and revitalizing the local economy. Please make every effort to ensure that both athletes and visitors have the best possible experience."
The event will be part of the regular LPGA season, featuring top-ranked players and will be broadcast live worldwide. Accordingly, Haenam County is not only preparing for the tournament itself but is also working to maximize its economic impact by developing related tourism products and promoting local specialties.
During the meeting, updates were also shared regarding the government-led plan to build the RE100 Industrial Complex in the southwestern region. Governor Myeon stressed, "All departments should stay engaged and maintain a cooperative system so that Haenam can be selected as the final site."
The meeting also included a briefing on the government's plan to establish the RE100 Industrial Complex in the southwest. Governor Myeon requested, "Please ensure that all departments remain attentive and cooperative so that Haenam can be chosen as the final site for the RE100 complex."
He emphasized, "Attracting the LPGA tournament, pursuing the RE100 complex, and establishing the Agri-Food Climate Change Response Center are all major opportunities that can change Haenam's future. These achievements are the result of years of steady preparation."
