Damyang County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Jung Chulwon) announced on August 11 that it will fully implement a support program starting in August, providing a monthly allowance of 300,000 won to grandparents (including maternal grandparents) who provide at least 40 hours of care per month for their grandchildren in households experiencing a childcare gap.

The program is open to households where the parents' income is at or below 150% of the median income level. Eligible grandchildren must be between 24 and 35 months old, and participating grandparents must be 80 years old or younger.

Grandparents are required to complete 200 minutes of pre-training and must provide care for at least 40 hours per month, with a maximum of 4 hours per day between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays. Activity logs must be recorded using the attendance system, and the monthly care allowance will be paid based on these records.

Governor Jung Chulwon stated, "In situations where parents are unable to care for their children due to economic activities or other reasons, this program will help strengthen the bond between grandparents and grandchildren and alleviate the social burden of childcare. We encourage widespread interest and participation."
