Hanmi Semiconductor unveiled an artwork collaboration with world-renowned pop artist Philip Colbert on August 11.
This collaboration is part of Hanmi Semiconductor’s marketing efforts to rebuild its brand image. Philip Colbert, a native of Scotland in the United Kingdom, is recognized as the “next Andy Warhol” for his unique works that employ bold, vibrant colors and cartoon-like elements.
He uses the lobster as an alter ego and artistic symbol, playfully reinterpreting modern society’s sense of identity and the role of art. He has established his presence as the “lobster artist” across painting, sculpture, media art, and fashion. Since 2014, he has held solo exhibitions at major museums and galleries worldwide, including Tate Modern in London, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Saatchi Gallery in Los Angeles, Whitestone in Hong Kong, Powerlong Museum in Shanghai, Multimedia Art Museum in Moscow, and Sejong Art Center in Seoul. He has built an international reputation as a leading British pop artist.
Philip Colbert is also well known for his marketing collaborations with global brands such as Apple, Samsung, Nike, Bentley, Rolex, Montblanc, Christian Louboutin, and Comme des Garcons. Since 2023, he has been collaborating with the prestigious Italian Serie A football club AS Roma, breaking the boundaries between sports and art. He incorporated his lobster design into the AS Roma uniform. He has also realized social value by co-creating charity artworks with star players and donating them to the Italian Red Cross.
In Korea, he attracted attention in September 2024 by presenting the “Lobster Wonderland” project, a giant 16-meter-tall lobster balloon, in collaboration with Lotte at Seokchon Lake in Seoul. Regarding the artwork, Philip Colbert said, “I reinterpreted the Hanmi Semiconductor logo with a pop art sensibility,” and added, “The logo’s colors blended naturally with the combination of my red lobster and blue suit.” He further explained, “Through the free-flowing forms of dripping paint, I expressed the vibrancy of sunflowers and conveyed a positive message.”
Since August 8, Hanmi Semiconductor has displayed the collaborative artwork with Philip Colbert on outdoor billboards at the southern end of Dongjak Bridge on Olympic-daero. A Hanmi Semiconductor representative stated, “The collaboration with world-renowned artist Philip Colbert will serve as an opportunity to reinterpret Hanmi Semiconductor’s brand image in a sophisticated way,” and added, “We plan to continue building a unique brand value not only through innovative technology but also through creative marketing.”
