Goheung County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Gong Youngmin) announced on the 11th that Cho Seunghwan, known as the "Barefoot Man," who serves as an ambassador for Goheung County and is an international environmental activist, broke the world record for "standing barefoot on ice for a long time" on the 10th in Zhangjiajie, China.
Cho set a new world record at an event hosted by the Korea-China Cultural Exchange International Media and the Cultural Department of the China World Belt and Road Federation. He stated, "It is already too late to prevent the climate crisis, but the world must unite and respond together," and appealed, "We need to form a joint government to address the climate crisis and take collective action."
This performance was intended to highlight the severity of the climate crisis by using ice as a metaphor for glaciers and bare feet as a metaphor for the planet suffering from global warming.
Meanwhile, Cho is scheduled to attempt to stand barefoot on ice for 5 hours and 35 minutes at the Gomada Temple in Myanmar on November 14.
