President Lee Jaemyung will convene an extraordinary Cabinet meeting on August 11 to review the possibility of granting a special pardon to Cho Kuk, former leader of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, among others.

Kang Yujeong, spokesperson for the presidential office, announced to the press corps on August 10, "An extraordinary Cabinet meeting will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow," adding, "The meeting will deliberate and decide on matters related to special pardons, special commutations, special reinstatements, and special amnesties."

Typically, Cabinet meetings are held every Tuesday. Accordingly, the presidential office had previously stated that the decision regarding pardons would be announced after the regular Cabinet meeting scheduled for August 12.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Justice's pardon review committee reportedly decided on August 7 to include Cho Kuk and his spouse, as well as former lawmakers Choi Kangwook and Yoon Mihyang, as candidates for special pardon and reinstatement in commemoration of Liberation Day.
