The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization will operate a pilot project for the digital-based experiential tourism content, "Gyeonggi Treasure Hunting," at the Gyeonggi Provincial Museum in Yongin City from August 12 to August 24.
The Gyeonggi Treasure Hunting project is a digital-based experiential program that allows visitors to directly discover and explore cultural heritage sites within the province through location-based experiential game content (L.B.E) that incorporates information and communication technologies such as QR codes, augmented reality (AR), and near-field communication (NFC).
In particular, since this year marks the first pilot project, it will be operated at the Gyeonggi Provincial Museum utilizing its exhibits, with the aim of reflecting user experience and operational results, as well as strategically expanding experiential tourism content that leverages the province's cultural assets.
Visitors can explore the exhibition spaces and use their smartphones to find and scan hidden QR codes within the museum. When scanned, storytelling and quizzes related to the artifacts appear, and upon solving these challenges, participants acquire digital treasures (cultural heritage items).
Those who complete the missions will receive commemorative gifts. Starting in 2026, the project plans to expand across the entire Gyeonggi Province as "Challenge Treasure Hunting," in collaboration with the private sector and participation from cities and counties.
A representative from the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization stated, "This project is a new type of tourism experiment that allows people to experience the province's cultural heritage in a more engaging way and to expand it through digital platforms. Through this, we aim to enhance awareness of cultural heritage protection and promote its use as a tourism resource, and we will actively encourage participation from a wide range of groups, including the MZ generation."
