Just three days after transferring to Los Angeles (LA) FC of Major League Soccer (MLS), Son Heung-min came off the bench and earned a crucial penalty kick that led to an equalizer.
After making his official debut in the 2025 MLS Round 26 away match against Chicago Fire FC at SeatGeek Stadium in Chicago, USA, at 9:30 a.m. (Korea Standard Time) on August 10, Son Heung-min said at a press conference, "I'm a bit disappointed that we couldn't get the full three points, but I think everyone put in a lot of effort. I'm happy to have made my debut, and I hope to score a goal soon."
Son Heung-min was subbed in at the 60th minute of the match, with the score tied at 1-1, and earned a penalty kick in the second half, helping his team secure a 2-2 draw.
Sharing his thoughts on setting foot on an MLS pitch for the first time, Son said, "It was truly enjoyable. I've never been welcomed so warmly at an away match before. Seeing people celebrate and enjoy football made me happy. I'm really glad to be here."
He also expressed his goal of making a bigger impact in the next match. LAFC will play an away game against the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, at 8:30 a.m. on August 17. He said, "I played about 30 minutes today, and I'm preparing for next week's match as well. I'll see how I can improve through training with my teammates," adding, "I hope to start next week and make an even bigger impact."
