Now in its 14th year, this competition is the largest science contest for high school students in Korea, launched in 2011 at the suggestion of Hanwha Group Chairman Kim Seungyeon. This year, under the theme of "Creative Ideas for a Sustainable Tomorrow," a total of 758 teams (1,516 students) from across the country participated. After the preliminary rounds, 20 teams advanced to the finals.

The grand prize went to the "Dance Pine" team (students Kim Jueun and Noh Yuna) from Seongju Girls' High School, who presented research on "Improving the Limitations of Pine Wilt Nematode Lure Traps." The team was recognized for developing a smart pest capture device that automatically adjusts the opening angle based on weather information such as temperature and humidity, enhancing efficiency and conserving resources.

The gold prize was awarded to two research teams: one from Seoul Science High School for their "Development of an ESS-Based Offshore Wind Power Generation System," and another from Daejeon Daeshin High School for their "Floating Marine Debris Collection Device." The total prize money amounts to 200 million won, and the teams that win the grand prize, gold prize, and silver prize will be given the opportunity to visit overseas scientific institutions.

Yoon Jaeyong, chair of the competition's organizing committee and professor at Seoul National University, said, "I hope the students' scientific imagination will contribute to creating a sustainable future."
