Heavy Rain Warnings Issued for Gangjin, Wando, Heuksando, and Hongdo
Roads, Ferries, Parks, and 34 Other Locations Restricted
148 Residents from 116 Households Evacuate to Community Centers and Other Shelters
Nearly 200mm of rain fell over two days in Gwangju and Jeonnam.
According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration on August 10, from midnight to 5 a.m. that day, rainfall measured 94mm in Hongdo, Shinan; 91.6mm in Heuksando, Shinan; 90.5mm in Seongjeon, Gangjin; 84.5mm in Bukil, Haenam; 81.5mm in Haksan, Yeongam; 68mm in Jangheung; and 11.5mm in Buk-gu, Gwangju, among other locations.

The cumulative rainfall from the previous day until this day was 178.8mm in Heuksando, Shinan; 175.5mm in Hongdo, Shinan; 146mm in Samsan-Chodo, Yeosu; 141.5mm in Seongjeon, Gangjin; 135.3mm in Wando; 131.5mm in Songji, Haenam; 131mm in Gangjin-eup, Gangjin; and 36mm in Buk-gu, Gwangju.
The highest hourly rainfall was recorded as 48.6mm in Jindo, 47.5mm in Heuksando, Shinan, 46.5mm in Ttangkkeut, Haenam, 46mm in Seongjeon, Gangjin, and 43.2mm in Wando.
Currently, heavy rain warnings are in effect for Gangjin, Wando, Heuksando, and Hongdo. Heavy rain advisories have been issued for Naju, Hwasun, Goheung, Boseong, Yeosu, Gwangyang, Suncheon, Jangheung, Haenam, Yeongam, Muan, Hampyeong, Mokpo, Shinan, Jindo, Geomundo, and Chodo. The Meteorological Administration has forecasted that heavy rain of 30 to 50mm per hour will continue through the morning, especially along the southern coast of Jeonnam.
Rain in Gwangju and Jeonnam is expected to continue until the night of August 10 before stopping. The forecasted rainfall is 30 to 100mm (with some areas exceeding 120mm) in southern Jeonnam, and 10 to 60mm in Gwangju and northern Jeonnam.
No significant damage has been reported yet, but in Jeonnam, roads and passenger ferries have been restricted, and residents in areas at risk of landslides have evacuated. A total of 34 locations have been closed, including five national parks, five passenger ferries on three routes, two riverside parking lots, and four parks and campgrounds. In Yeosu, Gwangyang, Boseong, and Hampyeong, 148 residents from 116 households have relocated to community centers and other shelters.
