Opening the Daejeon 0 Hour Festival with Brushstrokes
Filling a Massive 24-Meter-Wide Canvas with the Festival Slogan
The Daejeon 0 Hour Festival began with the slogan, "City of Pioneers, Daejeon That Never Sleeps, Fun That Never Dies, 2025 Daejeon 0 Hour Festival," written in calligraphy on a massive canvas measuring 24 meters wide.
On the afternoon of August 8, the scent of ink announcing the beginning of the "2025 Daejeon 0 Hour Festival" filled the air in front of the Sung Sim Dang Cake Boutique.
Hosted by the Daejeon Social Innovation Center, the large-scale live calligraphy performance drew significant interest and participation from Daejeon citizens. The event featured Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon Metropolitan City, Jung Taehee, Director of the Daejeon Calligraphy Promotion Institute, and calligrapher Park Yangjun, who together marked a spectacular opening to the festival.
The dynamic brushstrokes of calligrapher Park Yangjun set the stage, followed by Mayor Lee Jangwoo and Director Jung Taehee, who took turns on stage to inscribe the festival's slogan, one character at a time, on the massive 24-meter-wide canvas.

In particular, when Mayor Lee Jangwoo wrote the red '0', symbolizing the heart of the festival, the citizens of Daejeon and attendees erupted in enthusiastic applause and cheers.
Daejeon citizens present at the scene watched in awe as the majestic spectacle unfolded for an hour, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of Seol Janggu drumming, and responded with loud cheers as the calligraphy was completed.
Lee Sangho, Director of the Daejeon Social Innovation Center, said, "I am very pleased that this performance, now in its third year, has successfully opened the festival with such enthusiastic support from Daejeon citizens. I hope that the message of hope and unity for Daejeon, inscribed on today's giant canvas, will continue to live in the hearts of citizens throughout the festival."
