A man in his 30s who fatally stabbed an acquaintance in Daehyeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, was arrested on August 9.
On the afternoon of the same day, Judge Shin Hanmi of the Seoul Western District Court issued an arrest warrant for the suspect, identified as A, after holding a pretrial detention hearing on charges of murder, citing concerns that he might attempt to flee.
According to police, at around 11:00 p.m. on August 6, A allegedly stabbed and killed his acquaintance, a man in his 30s identified as B, with a weapon on a main street near the Mapo Tax Office in Daehyeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.
Investigations revealed that after having an argument with the victim during a drinking session, A left the restaurant, took out a weapon he had prepared in advance, and committed the crime.
During police questioning, A reportedly claimed to have a history of mental illness. Police plan to continue their investigation into A's specific motive for the crime.
