The Presidential Office has stated that the final list of those to be granted special pardons for Liberation Day, including former leader of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, Cho Kuk, as recommended by the Ministry of Justice's Pardon Review Committee, will be decided at the Cabinet meeting on August 12.
At a briefing on August 9, spokesperson Kang Yoojung responded to questions regarding whether President Lee Jaemyung had received a report on the list of pardon candidates from the Pardon Review Committee, stating, "I have not heard any specific information regarding the pardon or whether a report was made."
Spokesperson Kang further explained, "It is expected that the outline of the final list of pardon recipients will become clear when it is finalized at the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the 12th."
It has been reported that on August 7, the Pardon Review Committee selected former leader Cho Kuk and his spouse, former lawmaker Choi Kangwook, former lawmaker Yoon Mihyang, and others as candidates for special pardon and reinstatement for Liberation Day.
The final list of those to be pardoned and reinstated will be confirmed after deliberation and approval at the Cabinet meeting presided over by President Lee on August 12.
