Pointed Out in Written Administrative Inquiry
Urges Daegu City to "Improve the Environment"
Soyoung Park, a member of the Daegu City Council (People Power Party, Dong-gu District 2), called for the city's attention to the Dongchon Riverside Park area through a written administrative inquiry on August 8.
According to Korea Data Lab, Dongchon Riverside Park is a popular tourist attraction in Daegu's Dong-gu District, most frequently visited by people in their 20s to 40s. Currently, various festivals are held there, including 'Dudu Beokdong' in the spring and 'Dudu Seomdong' in the summer. The area is also favored as a picnic spot due to its many lawns and nearby cafes, making it a popular leisure destination for many young people.
However, the park's facilities and the rest area for taxi drivers do not meet the rising expectations of visitors. The park's facilities, established in 2013 as part of the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project, have become outdated in both appearance and environment after 12 years. In addition, although the Daegu Public Facilities Management Corporation began operating the taxi rest area under public management in May, there have been cases of insufficient preparation for overall operation and inadequate practical management since the transition.
Councilor Park urged Daegu City to improve the aesthetics, safety, and management of Dongchon Riverside Park. She requested specific responses from the city regarding plans for facility maintenance, safety measures and landscape improvement for the marina, an audit plan for the taxi rest area operation, and measures to ensure the effectiveness of public management of the taxi rest area.
She further pointed out, "Despite receiving poor performance evaluations?such as a 'Ma' grade (49.69 points) and 'Da' grades (70.88 points, 77.27 points)?during the period of private management of the taxi rest area, the lack of preparation for the transition to public management is a serious issue." She urged, "Daegu City should assess the spatial composition and actual use of the taxi rest area, and if there are any idle spaces, it should also consider utilization plans in cooperation with other agencies."
Councilor Soyoung Park stated, "Daegu City should implement fundamental improvements to the park's facilities and create a beautiful marina to provide an enhanced environment for festivals." She also called for the prompt establishment of a responsible operational inspection system to restore the taxi rest area's intended function, and requested the city to ensure the purpose of public management is realized by preparing advance plans, conducting thorough performance management, and establishing a system for collecting feedback from citizens and workers."
