An on-site evaluation of the 2026 Local Extinction Response Fund investment plan was conducted to address the crisis of regional extinction caused by the rapid population decline and aging in rural areas.

On August 7, Geumsan County launched an all-out effort to secure national funding through an on-site evaluation held at the Geumsan-eup National Health Insurance Service and the planned site for newlywed and youth public rental housing.

The Local Extinction Response Fund is a central government financial support program designed to overcome the crisis of regional extinction caused by rapid population decline and aging, and to establish a foundation for sustainable regional development.

According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's evaluation results, a top grade will result in 16 billion KRW in support, while a good grade will result in 7.2 billion KRW in support.

The county plans to implement five projects, including the tentatively named Moyeo-You Town, and has meticulously prepared to receive high marks in terms of strategic value, feasibility, and reflection of local demand during the evaluation.

Moyeo-You Town is a core project that aims to encourage young people to settle in the region by providing public rental housing for newlyweds and young people, offering a stable residential environment and a community-based foundation.

Going forward, the county plans to supplement the investment plan by reflecting the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's feedback and to accelerate the development of specific implementation plans and execution systems for each project.

A county official stated, "At this point, housing policies to attract young people and restore regional vitality are desperately needed," adding, "We will use this on-site evaluation as an opportunity to implement a more systematic local extinction response strategy and secure national funding to bring about tangible changes in the region."
