During the Moon Administration, the Investigation of Park Geunhye Was Even Harsher
"Executing an Arrest Warrant for a Separate Case While Detained Is Not Illegal"
Former Daegu Mayor Hong Junpyo commented on the execution of the arrest warrant for former President Yoon Sukyeol by the special prosecutor's team investigating Kim Keonhee, stating, "It is not illegal to execute an arrest warrant for a separate case against someone who is already detained," and criticized, "These are disgraceful debates."
On August 8, Hong made these remarks on his Facebook page. He elaborated, "This is all the more true because the investigation is not into the crimes for which the person is already detained, but into an entirely separate case."
He continued, "When Yoon Sukyeol and Han Donghoon were investigating the state affairs manipulation case during the Moon Jaein administration, didn't they forcibly bring in Choi Soonshil, who was already in detention, by executing an arrest warrant after she refused to appear? The argument that the arrest is illegal simply because the right to remain silent was preemptively notified during a forced investigation is absurd."
Hong also mentioned the summoning and investigation of former President Park Geunhye during the Moon Jaein administration. He said, "Arrest, by its nature, is a compulsory measure involving the use of physical force," and criticized, "During the Park Geunhye case, wasn't she summoned and investigated daily in prison uniform, and tried two or three times a week as if it were a military court under martial law? Didn't they even refuse her request to have a chair brought into the prison due to her back pain?"
He concluded, "Having done such wrongful things in the past, to now act disgracefully is not the right thing to do. If one's actions are justified and honorable, one should not refuse any investigation," and added, "A special investigation is, by definition, conducted according to a predetermined framework. If one refuses an investigation on the grounds that the framework is set, the state affairs manipulation investigation under the Moon Jaein administration was even more severe than what is happening now. Was it a righteous investigation then, but political oppression now? The public seems to have forgotten this."
