This project is being carried out in collaboration with the Korea Transport Institute, a national research institute responsible for establishing national transportation policies and visions. The plan is to present a creative and feasible transportation vision tailored to the era of artificial intelligence (AI), incorporate it into transportation-related statutory plans, and implement ongoing monitoring.
This will be the highest-level plan, providing customized detailed strategies for statutory plans that were previously established separately in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. It marks the first case in which a local government establishes an integrated policy covering all areas of transportation.
In July of last year, the city announced the "Paju Transportation Vision 30·30·30" to advance toward becoming a "city of one million," presenting three key goals: ▲ 30 minutes to Seoul ▲ 30 minutes within Paju City ▲ 30% reduction in traffic accidents.
To achieve the "30 minutes to Seoul" goal, the city is promoting a shift from a car-centered to a rail-centered transportation system, including ▲ activation of GTX-A ▲ construction of a multi-modal transfer center at Geumchon Station ▲ extension of Subway Line 3 and KTX to Paju. To achieve the "30 minutes within Paju City" goal, the city is developing plans to enable rapid movement from local hubs to major railway stations, including ▲ operation of the Paju-type public transit model "Paju-type Bus Rapid Transit (PBRT)" ▲ establishment of public transfer centers.
In addition, to achieve the goal of "30% reduction in traffic accidents," the city has established the "Zero Traffic Accidents Task Force" under the direct control of the mayor and is gradually implementing initiatives such as the "100-Day Special Traffic Safety Project with Citizens" to promote a culture of traffic safety.
During the report meeting, there was an in-depth discussion on the "mobility guarantee process" plan to ensure universal mobility rights for all citizens. The city plans to supplement the plan by incorporating the opinions presented, and in the future, will hold a final report meeting to complete the mid- to long-term comprehensive plan to achieve the goals of the "Paju Transportation Vision 30·30·30."
Kim Kyoungil, Mayor of Paju, said, "We will steadily promote the Paju-type public transit model, PBRT, and public transfer centers to fully guarantee basic mobility rights for all citizens, preparing for the era of 'basic society·basic transportation,' and further accelerate the realization of 'Paju, a self-sufficient city of one million.'"
