Fundraising Campaign Launched to Support Residents Affected by Border Dispute Until September
Provision of Temporary Shelter, Food, Hygiene Products, and Other Essential Supply Kits
The Salvation Army Korea Territory (Commander Kim Byungyun) announced on August 8 that it launched an official fundraising campaign on August 6 to support refugees affected by heightened military tensions along the Thailand-Cambodia border.
After a gunfight broke out near the border of the two countries on July 24, forcing residents to evacuate urgently, the Salvation Army dispatched an emergency relief team to the area to assess the situation. The team prioritized support for 17 families, totaling about 50 refugees, in the Sampong Chey region of Cambodia.
Some residents are temporarily staying at Salvation Army churches, but as the period of displacement is prolonged, their hardships are recurring. In response, Captain Kim Hongsu, the Salvation Army's regional officer in Cambodia, together with six local volunteers, set up relief tents and distributed essential supply kits containing rice, drinking water, instant noodles, snacks, and hygiene products.
Jang Kyuyoung, head of the Salvation Army emergency relief team, stated, "Residents in the border area have already lost their homes, and their anxiety is intensifying amid the threat of war. We ask for the public's interest and participation so that these people can maintain at least a minimum standard of living during this crisis." The fundraising campaign can be joined through Naver Happybean, and further information is available from the Salvation Army.
