The Kremlin has announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump have agreed to hold a summit within the next few days.

According to Russian media outlets such as TASS, Yury Ushakov, Kremlin foreign policy advisor, said in a briefing on August 7, 2025, "At the suggestion of the U.S. side, we have basically agreed to hold a top-level bilateral meeting between Russia and the United States, that is, a summit between President Putin and President Trump, within the next few days." He mentioned that the meeting is expected to take place next week, and that the location will be announced soon.


Advisor Ushakov added that the venue for the summit has also been agreed upon and will be announced shortly. He also explained that Steve Witkoff, U.S. Middle East envoy, met with President Putin the previous day and mentioned a possible trilateral meeting between Trump, Putin, and Ukrainian President Zelensky, but said that Russia did not respond to this proposal.
