Digital Climbing, Cave Mural Painting, and More:
A Variety of Hands-On Experiences at Baegunsan Forest Museum
On August 7, the city of Gwangyang, South Jeolla Province, announced its recommendation of the Baegunsan Forest Museum as a destination for families with children during this unprecedented summer vacation, when the severe climate crisis is being felt firsthand due to repeated heatwaves and heavy rain.
The Baegunsan Forest Museum, located within the Baegunsan Natural Recreation Forest, is a place that raises awareness of the value and importance of precious forests and offers visitors an opportunity to heed the stern warnings of nature.

Opened in January, the Baegunsan Forest Museum consists of three exhibition halls: Exhibition Hall 1, "The Forest Is Disappearing"; Exhibition Hall 2, "The Forest Is Precious"; and Exhibition Hall 3, "Together With the Forest."
Exhibition Hall 1 candidly highlights the crisis facing the Earth and forest ecosystems, focusing on forests scarred by natural disasters and devastated by ecological destruction.
Exhibition Hall 2 reminds visitors of the importance of nature through a variety of hands-on experiences, including exhibits on the ecology of Baegunsan’s flora and fauna, leaf fossils, digital climbing, glow-in-the-dark cave mural painting, and media art.
Exhibition Hall 3 allows visitors to sink into soft bean bag sofas and enjoy media art depicting the four seasons of Baegunsan, including Gushi Waterfall in Eochi Valley, displayed on a screen accompanied by gentle music.
The museum’s inaugural special exhibition, "Mountain" by artist Park Hana, is scheduled to inspire awe for the grandeur of nature among visitors until August 30, through exotic landscapes of the vast and majestic Caucasus Mountains.
In particular, the titles of works such as Byeokincheonin, Susanbokhae, and Dongbinggajeol, as well as the calmly narrated descriptions, are imbued with the artist’s delicate passion for life and profound humanistic insight.
Lee Hyunju, head of the Tourism Division, stated, "The Baegunsan Forest Museum is a mecca for summer vacation, where children can learn the value of forests through various play and experiential activities," and added, "With the start of the summer vacation and holiday season, we recommend a trip to Gwangyang, where you can enjoy both fun and meaningful experiences."
She further explained, "The Baegunsan Natural Recreation Forest, home to the Baegunsan Forest Museum, is filled with healing content such as the Healing Forest, the Wood Culture Experience Center, the Ecological Forest, and the Hwangto Trail, all offering relaxation and hands-on experiences. Nearby, there are also Donggok Valley and Seongbul Valley, which are among the four major valleys of Baegunsan, making it an ideal destination for family trips."
