The Special Prosecutor's Office for the Insurrection Case (Special Prosecutor Cho Eunseok) is questioning Hong Cheolho, former Senior Secretary for Political Affairs at the Presidential Office, as a reference witness.
On August 6, Special Prosecutor Park Jiyoung stated during a regular briefing, "The questioning has been ongoing since 1:30 p.m.," adding, "It is difficult to confirm details of the investigation, including related allegations, due to the nature of the ongoing inquiry."
The special prosecutor's team is reportedly verifying in detail the whereabouts of officials at the Presidential Office, including former Chief of Staff Chung Jinseok, before and after the declaration of martial law on December 3 of last year.
Additionally, starting at 10:00 a.m. on the same day, the special prosecutor's team has been questioning Kim Daejin, President of the Korea National University of Arts, and Kim Daekyung, former Head of the Support Headquarters at the Presidential Security Service, both as reference witnesses.
The Korea National University of Arts, an institution under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is known to have completely restricted access to its Seokgwan-dong campus and sent students home in the late afternoon of December 3 of last year, when former President Yoon Sukyeol declared martial law.
Former Head Kim is suspected of being involved in providing a secure encrypted phone, used for security and confidentiality purposes, to Noh Sangwon, a former Commander of the Defense Security Command, who was identified as a civilian member of the insurrection's unofficial network.
