This achievement was made possible after the proposal "EU-Korea Relations at a Crossroads," submitted by the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Jean Monnet EU Center to the EU’s Directorate-General for Education and Culture (EACEA), was accepted.

Hankuk University of Foreign Studies began the first phase of this project in 2011 in collaboration with Hyundai Research Institute. Since then, it has successfully carried out Jean Monnet Center Phase 1 (2016-2019), Phase 2 (2019-2022), and Phase 3 (2022-2025). With the selection for this fifth phase, the Jean Monnet EU Center will continue its Phase 4 activities for three years, from December 2025 to November 2028, and will be recognized as a research institution that has received EU support for a total of 16 years.

In addition, the Jean Monnet Module project was also selected as part of this initiative, securing three years of support for EU-related lectures and educational activities under the theme "EU and Global Challenges: From Economic Security to Sustainable Governance." The module will be led by Professor Kang Yudeok of the LT Department at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, while Professor Kim Bongcheol of the Division of International Studies will be appointed as the new director of the Jean Monnet EU Center.

With this selection, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies plans to further expand its educational, research, and diplomatic ties with the EU, and to continuously strengthen its capabilities in world-class European studies and policy proposals.
