This agreement was pursued to establish an organic cooperative system for building sustainable social innovation models and expanding international exchanges. Both institutions set joint goals of educational and research collaboration based on living labs and the activation of a global network.
Notably, on the day of the agreement signing, a pre-session exchange meeting with Osaka University in Japan was also held, adding significance as the first on-site case of global living lab cooperation. This exchange was linked to the extracurricular program "Sustainable ESG Leadership Course 3.0," organized by the Hanyang University Global Social Innovation Team, providing a foundation for students to expand their capacity for solving local issues internationally.
The two institutions have set a variety of collaborative tasks, including: joint development and operation of living lab-based extracurricular programs; overseas field trips to explore best practices and the expansion of international exchanges; implementation of field-oriented projects to foster young changemakers; and joint discovery of sustainable regional innovation models between Korea and Japan. They plan to continue their cooperation through a mid- to long-term partnership.
Hanyang University aims to use this agreement as an opportunity to strengthen the global connectivity of ESG-based extracurricular programs and to disseminate practical educational models that bridge local communities and the international society. The university also plans to actively fulfill its social responsibility for a sustainable future through ongoing collaboration with domestic and international social innovation actors.
Shin Hyunsang, head of the Global Social Innovation Team, said, "This agreement marks the first step in living lab cooperation that connects education and practice, as well as local and international communities," adding, "Starting with the exchange meeting with Osaka University, we look forward to expanding a sustainable global social innovation ecosystem together with Gongsaeng."
