Personnel changes have been made for those responsible in connection with the controversy over inadequate initial police response during the Incheon Songdo homemade firearm murder case.
On August 6, the National Police Agency announced, "We have reassigned the chief of Incheon Yeonsu Police Station, who held command responsibility, as well as the situation manager on duty at Yeonsu Police Station on the day of the incident."
Park Sangjin, the chief of Yeonsu Police Station, and the situation manager on duty that day have been placed on standby assignment at the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency's Planning and Administration Division. The new chief will be Bae Seokhwan, the current head of the Incheon Agency's 112 General Security Situation Room.
The police received a report of this incident at around 9:31 p.m. on July 20, but it took over 70 minutes after the report was received to locate the suspect, Mr. A (62). The situation manager at Yeonsu Police Station, who should have been directing frontline officers, was not present at the scene.
The police special operations unit entered the premises at around 10:43 p.m., but Mr. A had already fled. The victim was transported to the hospital but ultimately passed away.
