Siheung City to Hold 'Siheung Peace Statue Memorial Ceremony' on August 14

Siheung City in Gyeonggi Province will hold the 9th Siheung Peace Statue Memorial Ceremony at Okgu Park in Jeongwang-dong on August 14.

The ceremony is jointly organized by the Siheung City branch of the Gyeonggi Province Women's Association Council and Siheung Women's Hotline. The event will begin with a commemorative musical performance and a vocal performance, followed by a memorial performance by the Children's Participation Committee, a commemorative address, and a flower-laying ceremony.

The "Siheung Peace Statue" was erected in Okgu Park in 2016 through donations from 1,537 citizens and 97 organizations, following the launch of the Siheung Peace Statue Promotion Committee, which was composed of local citizens.

Each year, the city has used the memorial ceremony to raise awareness of the historical truth of the Japanese military "comfort women" victims and to foster social consensus for the advancement of women's rights. This year, in particular, the Children's Participation Committee will join the event, providing an opportunity to share memories with the next generation.
