Torrential Downpours of Around 70 mm Per Hour Possible
On Wednesday, August 6, the entire country is expected to be mostly cloudy with rain.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the expected rainfall over the next two days is 30 to 100 mm in the Seoul metropolitan area, inland and mountainous regions of Gangwon; 30 to 80 mm in Chungcheong, Jeolla, and Gyeongsang regions (excluding Ulleungdo and Dokdo); 10 to 40 mm along the east coast of Gangwon; and 5 to 40 mm in Ulleungdo and Dokdo. In Jeju Island, 30 to 80 mm of rain is forecast through August 8. Some parts of the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon may receive more than 150 mm, and some areas in Jeolla may see more than 120 mm of heavy rain.
In some regions, torrential downpours of around 70 mm per hour are possible.People are advised to refrain from using riverside walking trails and underpasses, and to be especially cautious of flooding in low-lying areas.
As of 5 a.m., current temperatures are as follows: Seoul 27.1°C, Incheon 27.2°C, Suwon 26.8°C, Chuncheon 24.8°C, Gangneung 27.0°C, Cheongju 28.5°C, Daejeon 27.6°C, Jeonju 27.4°C, Gwangju 27.0°C, Jeju 30.4°C, Daegu 27.2°C, Busan 27.9°C, Ulsan 27.7°C, and Changwon 27.4°C.
The daytime high is forecast to range between 28°C and 34°C. With continued humid and hot weather, the maximum perceived temperature is expected to remain above 31°C for the time being, resulting in very hot conditions.
Fine dust concentrations will remain at a 'good' level nationwide, due to smooth atmospheric dispersion and the effects of precipitation.
Waves in the sea are expected to reach 0.5 to 2.5 meters in the coastal waters of the East and South Seas, and 0.5 to 1.5 meters in the coastal waters of the West Sea. In the offshore areas (up to about 200 km from the coastline), wave heights will be 0.5 to 3.5 meters in the East Sea, and 1.0 to 3.5 meters in the West and South Seas.
