Gyeonggi Province issued "Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters Emergency Level 1" across the entire province as of 5:00 a.m. on August 6.
Previously, on August 5, Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dongyeon sent an urgent disaster response directive to each city and county, instructing the following measures: securing on-site response capabilities and implementing preemptive evacuation through proactive situation assessment meetings led by deputy heads; conducting maintenance work and inspections to prevent secondary damage in areas affected by the heavy rainfall in July; making welfare calls to priority evacuation targets such as single or two-person households in mountainous areas, semi-basement homes, and landslide-prone zones, and recommending preemptive evacuation before sunset if necessary; confirming by phone with four designated personnel for underground road flooding preparedness during commuting hours and implementing preemptive control before dangerous situations occur; and issuing special instructions to ensure the safety of vacationers during the holiday season, including immediate evacuation and prohibition of access to dangerous areas via disaster text messages and civil defense warning facilities when weather advisories are issued.
In particular, the province emphasized that if a heavy rain preliminary advisory is issued, campers staying in vehicles or tents near valleys and rivers should be evacuated in advance and access should be restricted.
Additionally, on the afternoon of August 5, Administrative Deputy Governor Kim Sungjoong presided over an emergency countermeasure meeting between the province and cities/counties to prepare for heavy rain. The meeting reiterated the need for monitoring, inspections, and preemptive control of riverside walking trails, riverside parking lots, and underground roads during commuting hours; the dispatch of public officials to flood warning points when a flood advisory is issued; and the preemptive activation of the disaster response headquarters in cities and counties when a preliminary advisory is announced.
Meanwhile, the Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted that, due to the influence of a low-pressure system approaching from the northwest, Gyeonggi Province would experience 30 to 80 millimeters of rainfall between August 6 and 7. In particular, the northwestern and eastern parts of Gyeonggi Province are expected to receive more than 120 millimeters of rain.
