A heatwave is sweeping across Japan, with temperatures in some regions exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.
According to local Japanese media on August 5, the highest temperature in Isesaki, Gunma Prefecture, located in central Honshu, reached 41.8 degrees Celsius. This surpasses the previous record high of 41.2 degrees Celsius observed in Tamba, Hyogo Prefecture, on July 30 this year, setting a new all-time high in the history of Japan's meteorological observations.
In addition, temperatures in Kiryu, Gunma Prefecture, also rose to 41.2 degrees Celsius. Other locations in the Kanto region, including Hatoyama, Saitama Prefecture (41.4 degrees Celsius), and Ome, Tokyo (40.4 degrees Celsius), also exceeded 40 degrees Celsius. This marks the sixth day this summer that temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius or higher have been recorded in Japan.
On this day, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a heatstroke alert for 44 out of the country's 47 prefectures, ranging from Aomori Prefecture to Okinawa Prefecture.
