Mokpo Citizen Award Now Accepting Public Nominations and Judge Applications

Mokpo City in Jeonnam announced on August 5 that it is publicly recruiting candidates and judges for the '2025 Citizen Award' in celebration of the 63rd Citizen's Day, with applications open until September 1.

The 'Citizen Award' was established in 1963 to honor both Korean and international individuals who have elevated the prestige of Mokpo City and contributed to the development of the local community. To date, 106 individuals and 4 organizations have received the award.

The award is open in six categories: ▲Community Service ▲Education and Culture ▲Economy ▲Sports ▲Filial Piety ▲Special Activities. Nominations may be submitted by city council members, district heads, heads of institutions or organizations, or by a joint recommendation of 20 or more citizens.

Among the nominated candidates, one final recipient will be selected through a review process. The award ceremony will be held during the 63rd Citizen's Day celebration on October 1.

To ensure a fair and professional evaluation, the city is also publicly recruiting judges. The judging panel will consist of 10 members, including local figures from various fields such as business, education and culture, sports, women's groups, and civic organizations.

The judging committee will be composed of up to 25 members, including 5 city council members, 9 experts from relevant fields, and 10 judges selected through the public recruitment process. Recommendation forms and application documents can be downloaded from the Mokpo City Hall website. For more details, inquiries can be made to the Department of Autonomous Administration.

A city official stated, "The Citizen Award is a symbolic occasion to honor individuals who have quietly devoted themselves to the local community," and added, "We ask for the active interest and participation of our citizens."
