The "Dialogue with Citizens of Eastern Yangsan," which was postponed due to heavy rain damage in Sancheong County, was held on August 5 at the Yangsan Woongsang Culture and Sports Center Gymnasium, hosted by Gyeongnam Province and Yangsan City.
Presided over by Park Wansu, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, and Na Dongyeon, Mayor of Yangsan, the event was organized to explain major regional issues and directly gather a wide range of opinions from citizens. The event began at 11:20 a.m. with a status report at the planned site for the Yangsan Arboretum, followed by an on-site inspection of "Supaeseo," an anti-aging facility.
The main dialogue with citizens took place from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. over two hours. The event began with a performance by a local artist, followed by explanations of major regional projects in eastern Yangsan and an active Q&A session with attending citizens.
Major issues discussed included the river disaster prevention project as part of the Hoeya River Renaissance Project, the Yongdang Historic District Cultural Tourism Belt Project, the Jujin Light Park Project, the early construction of the Busan-Yangsan-Ulsan metropolitan railway, the establishment of the Eastern Administrative Town (police station and fire station), the creation of the Yangsan Arboretum, the construction of the Yangsan Indoor Swimming Pool, and the establishment of an emergency medical system in the Woongsang area.
In particular, the Hoeya River Renaissance Project, consisting of five sub-projects, is expected to serve as a new landmark for the region.
Additionally, various projects aimed at regional development and citizen convenience were introduced, attracting significant interest from attendees. These included the establishment of a basic plan for the redevelopment of the aging planned city in Seochang District, the construction of Deokgye LH public rental apartments, the development and business attraction of Woongsang Industrial Complex, support projects for foreign residents, the construction of the Eastern Yangsan Youth Culture Center, and the establishment of the Eastern Yangsan Branch of the Yangsan Childcare Support Center.
Mayor Na Dongyeon said, "I am grateful to the citizens who showed great interest in this meaningful event despite the unavoidable schedule adjustment due to the disaster situation. We will do our utmost, in close cooperation with Gyeongnam Province, to ensure that major projects proceed without setbacks and that the eastern Yangsan area can truly become a hub of transportation, culture, and tourism."
Governor Park Wansu emphasized, "We will carefully review the opinions presented at today's meeting and ensure they lead to tangible improvements. We will create a Gyeongnam where everyone lives with hope through policies that residents can truly feel."
