Busan Medical Technology Goes Global... Daedong Hospital Holds Medical Information Session in Gachuurt, Mongolia Daedong Hospital held a medical briefing session for two days starting August 1st at the Gachurt Village Health Center in Bayanzurkh District, Ulaanbaatar City, Mongolia, in collaboration with Daedong University.

This session was organized as part of Daedong Hospital's specialized overseas medical technology marketing project, which is being promoted after the hospital was selected in May for the "2025 Busan Medical Technology Exchange Promotion Support Project" hosted by Busan City and the Busan Economic Promotion Agency.

A total of 16 people participated in the session, including Daedong Hospital Director Lee Gwangjae (endocrinology specialist), Kim Youngjun, Director of the International Cooperation Center (orthopedics specialist), Park Sanghee, Head of the International Cooperation Team, Professor Kim Hojin from the Department of Nursing at Daedong University, and members of the Daedong University Smart Healthcare Global Volunteer Group, which consists of students from the Department of Nursing and the Department of Emergency Medical Technology.

Gachuurt Village in Mongolia is a traditional rural area located in Administrative District No. 20 of Bayanzurkh District, on the eastern outskirts of the capital, Ulaanbaatar. Compared to urban areas, this region has relatively limited access to public services such as healthcare, education, and sanitation.

Mongolia is known for its meat-centered diet, which has resulted in a high prevalence of chronic diseases. In response, Daedong Hospital Director Lee Gwangjae personally provided local residents with education on nutrition and disease prevention, focusing on major lifestyle diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia.

Daedong Hospital has been designated by the Korean Diabetes Association as a recognized hospital for diabetes educator training. The hospital operates a diabetes education center, where Director Lee Gwangjae, along with other medical staff, nurses, and nutritionists, participate in developing and providing a variety of educational programs aimed at improving the health and quality of life of diabetes patients.

During this session, practical and specific information on dietary control, exercise, and treatment was delivered, receiving a very positive response from the residents of Gachuurt.

In consideration of the rural nature of the area, where many residents engage in physical labor and suffer from musculoskeletal pain, Kim Youngjun, Director of the International Cooperation Center, provided consultations and education on the management of degenerative and traumatic musculoskeletal diseases.

Additionally, the Daedong University Smart Healthcare Global Volunteer Group contributed to strengthening local health capacity by conducting basic emergency response training and CPR education in which local residents directly participated.

Director Lee Gwangjae stated, "It was a very meaningful experience to visit Mongolia in person, witness the local medical environment and realities, and communicate with local healthcare professionals and residents while introducing Busan's advanced medical technology and systematic health management expertise. I was deeply impressed by the passion of the health center director, who is making great efforts for the local residents despite difficult conditions."

He added, "We will continue to expand international cooperation, contribute to improving health in medically vulnerable countries, and work towards the advancement of global medical services so that Busan's outstanding medical technology can play an even greater role on the world stage."

Daedong Hospital was selected not only for specialized medical technology marketing but also for physician training and medical sharing projects under the "2025 Busan Medical Technology Exchange Promotion Support Project." Through this visit to Mongolia, the hospital was able to identify potential participants for each project in advance and lay the groundwork for future cooperation.

Daedong Hospital plans to actively work towards establishing a practical and sustainable international medical cooperation model in the future.
