Applications Accepted from August 11 to 20 for Those Aged 60 and Over
One-Stop Model Connecting Certification and Employment
Gwangju Dong-gu District announced on August 5 that it will be recruiting participants for the "Dong-gu Silver·Joy Lifelong Learning Group" from August 11 to 20, targeting senior citizens in the area.
This program was established following Gwangju City's selection for the Ministry of Education's "Regional Lifelong Education Activation Support Contest." It has been designed as a one-stop lifelong education model that connects skill acquisition, certification, and employment for the elderly.
In cooperation with the local social enterprise "Haengbokhan Sseuim," the program will be divided into two tracks: "Wise Silver Life Practical Sewing (Hobby Class, 15 participants)" and "Senior Life Sewing Expert (Certification Class, 15 participants)." The classes will be held at the Dong-gu Lifelong Learning Center. On the first day, a special lecture on gerontology, focusing on dementia prevention and laughter therapy, will be given by Professor Kim Youngsik of Nambu University.
A total of 30 participants will be recruited for both classes, and the program is open to Dong-gu residents aged 60 and older. There is no tuition fee. Interested residents can apply via the Dong-gu Doodream app or by visiting the Lifelong Learning Center in person.
Im Taek, head of Dong-gu District Office, stated, "This program is a lifelong education initiative that goes beyond simple leisure activities to provide practical skill acquisition and opportunities for social participation for the elderly." He added, "Outstanding graduates can be linked to internships at social enterprises, which is expected to greatly contribute to improving the quality of life for the elderly and creating local jobs."
