Providing Online Subscriptions
The Korean Standards Association announced on August 5 that it has renewed its agreement with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), securing the authority to offer all products sold by ASME as an official reseller. Through this agreement, the association can now provide a wide range of ASME standards and BPVC (Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code) products not only in PDF, print, and hard copy formats, but also through online subscription services, expanding beyond its previously limited offerings.
ASME, established in 1880, is a prestigious nonprofit organization in the field of mechanical engineering, developing standards and codes and operating the BPVC certification system. The BPVC is an essential code in the boiler and pressure vessel sector and is published every two years. Since 2012, the association has provided mechanical standards information through a licensing agreement with ASME, but there were restrictions on the sale of certain products. With this official reseller designation, these limitations have been fully resolved. Notably, following the Indian standards organization, the association has become the second reseller in Asia recognized to sell all types of ASME products, including online subscriptions. Among major standardization organizations worldwide, only about ten?including those in the United States, France, and Germany?are authorized to provide all products, including online subscriptions, as resellers.
Through this agreement, the association plans to integrate ASME standards and BPVC subscription services into its own platform, 'KSSN (Korean Standards Service Network),' creating an environment where customers can immediately subscribe to and utilize these services online. Moon Dongmin, President of the Korean Standards Association, stated, "Being designated as an official ASME reseller is an international recognition of the association's global standard distribution capabilities and credibility," and added, "The association will continue to expand cooperation with global standardization organizations to promptly supply international standards needed by Korean companies."
